For more than six decades, Chung Shan Medical University has held fast to its founding purpose: cultivating physicians and health professionals who combine technical excellence with unwavering moral conviction. From a medical college in Taichung to a comprehensive university spanning medicine, dentistry, nursing, and the health sciences, I assume the presidency mindful of this inheritance, committed to carrying it forward.

Facing demographic contraction, technological disruption, and intensifying international competition, this university draws on deep clinical strength, a distinguished faculty, and a rigorous, humanistic training tradition — closely aligned with the Ministry of Education’s Higher Education Sprout Project and Taiwan’s smart healthcare ambitions.

Our strategy rests on three pillars: an AI-integrated medical curriculum equipping graduates with genuine command of the tools reshaping clinical practice; strengthened institutional governance, with streamlined administration and digital infrastructure for evidence-based decisions; and medical humanities and ethics as the curriculum’s core — for as AI’s role grows, physicians’ judgment, empathy, and ethical discernment matter more, not less. We aim to produce physicians patients truly trust.

This work depends on our faculty’s expertise and openness to reform. For our students, we will push at the walls of convention and open doors the profession has not yet imagined, so you graduate truly ready for the medicine ahead. To our alumni and partners at home and abroad, I invite deepened collaboration.

Our founders built something lasting because they built on principle. Our responsibility is to ensure that decades from now, the same can be said of this generation’s work — tradition and innovation in service of one another. I write as the newly inaugurated president, bringing over four decades in gastroenterology, internal medicine, and academic leadership, including service as Dean and Vice President here, and I take up this role with humility and resolve.
