Regulations for Minor Majors

Article 1

The University has established the Chung Shan Medical University Regulations for Minor Majors (hereafter referred as “the Regulation”) in accordance with the University Law for the purpose of processing the minor study of the students in the Bachelor’s program.

Article 2

Each department should establish Enforcement Rules of Minor Majors in accordance with the Regulation. The content of Enforcement Rules should consist of a number of available seats, standards, and conditions. The Enforcement Rules will be implemented and published after the approval in the Department Affair Meeting, College Affairs Meeting, and Academic Affairs Meeting.

Article 3 Students who intend to pursue a minor major may apply from the first semester of the second academic year to the first semester of the highest grade of study period (not including extended study period) in the University. Students' application to pursue a double major shall be approved and signed by both chairs of the original and intended department and deans of the original and intended department. The applicants shall submit the completed application form and the academic transcript to the Office of Academic Affairs within10 days before the start of new semester.
Article 4 Course offered for a minor major program shall be accordance with the required credits of the department. Students pursuing a minor major degree not only fulfill the minimum graduation credits of their original major, but acquire at least 20 credits of required (compulsory) courses in the minor major program.
Article 5 Credits which students take for their minor major degree shall be in addition to the required minimum graduation credits of their original major.
Article 6 Scores of students' courses in their minor study (degree program) shall be averaged into each semester’s score. If students fail to pass any course in their minor major study, the University shall handle grades-related matters in accordance with applicable regulations.
Article 7 For students who fulfill the credits of required courses in the minor major program apply to transfer or withdraw from the University, the said information will be noted in their certificate of transfer, certificate of withdrawal, and transcript.
Article 8

For students who fulfill the credits of required courses in the minor major program, the said information will be noted in their graduating students list, diploma, bachelor's degree certificate, and each year's transcript in both of Chinese and English version.

Students who have acquired necessary credits for graduation from their major department but failed do so for their minor department are eligible for receiving a degree in their major, but the record of their minor major will not be noted in their diploma. The aforementioned students are neither permitted to finish their minor major after their study period (including extended study period) is completed.
Article 9 Students who have not acquired necessary credits of elective courses for graduation from their major department may declare withdrawal from the minor major program. The courses with a passing grade of the minor major program can be applied for credit waiver against the elective courses of the major. The aforementioned students shall declare withdrawal from minor major program and file the application before the midterm exam in the last semester of the last academic year of the original department. The application filed after the deadline will prolong students' study period for one semester.
Article 10 Students who take experiment or practice courses from their minor major program shall pay the cost of materials or expense of trainees according to the rules established by the minor study department.
Article 11 Students who fail to fulfill the required credits of their minor major program within their study period (including extended study period) are not permitted to request proof of minor major.
Article 12 If the required courses of the minor major program are duplicates of the required courses and credits of the major study, it will not be counted as the number of credit needed for the minor study. Under the circumstance, additional courses should be taken from the elective courses assigned by the minor major department.
Article 13 If the University runs additional courses for students who pursue a minor major  during the study period, the students shall pay for the credit fees and tuitions. Students who have taken less than nine credits per semester in the extended study period will have to pay for the credit fees and tuitions; students who have taken more than ten credits per semester in the extended study period will have to pay tuitions in full.
Article 14

These articles are implemented after it is resolved in the Academic Affairs Meeting and in University Affairs Meeting and announced by President, and submitted to the Ministry of Education for record, so is the amendment.

The Chinese version of the document shall prevail in case of any discrepancy or inconsistency between Chinese version and its English translation.
