Course Offering Guidelines

Article 1

Chung Shan Medical University (hereafter referred as “the University”) enacts this Guidelines for department, school, center, teaching units to offer courses.

Article 2

The pre-processes of course offerings, including confirmation credit hours, complementation of recruiting teachers, a list of timetable of full time teachers, and a list of timetable of part-time teachers.

Article 3

The register office needs to confirm the following:

  1. The number of courses offered and numbers of students each course.
  2. All the available laboratories offered by each department.
  3. The time slot of courses including: Organic Chemistry, Analytic Chemistry General Biology, Molecular Biology, Biochemics, Pathematology, Histology, Anatomy, Physiology, Pharmacology, Microbiology and Immunology, Parasitology, General Physics (hereafter referred as “the Basic Medicine Courses”.)
  4. The time slot of courses including: English, Reading and Writing, Physical Education (hereafter referred as “the General Courses”.)
Article 4 If any courses tend to overlap, the register office will arrange courses cooperatively.
Article 5

The Registrars and coordinators of teaching units need to confirm the following:

  1. The required courses offered by teaching units are the same as the credit list of each academic year.
  2. New elective courses offered by teaching units are passed by department course committee, college course committee, and university course committee.
  3. The time slots of courses are appropriate.
Article 6

The time slot of courses needs to follow the following:

  1. 30 percent of classes of Basic Medicine Courses and General Courses are arranged in first and second time slots from Tuesday to Friday.
  2. Each department needs to arrange courses with following:
  1. The required courses attended by 70 students have priority to arrange time slots and classrooms. Other required courses need to be arranged at least 30 percent in the first and second time slots from Tuesday to Friday, or required in the fifth to eighth time slot on Friday. Time slots are subject to be arranged by the register office when classrooms are overbooked
  2. Experimental courses need to be taught in laboratory only. Experimental course conducted two to three hours per week counts one credit, and experimental course conducted four to six hours per week counts two credits. The same laboratory courses cannot be arranged two credits at the same day.
  3. The required courses of interdisciplinary programs need to be arranged in the first to eighth time slots on Friday or after the ninth time slot from Tuesday to Friday.
  4. Courses offered by each department can not be arranged on University Collaborative Time. The required courses for freshman and sophomore offered by each department cannot be arranged on Monday.
  1. Each teaching unit cannot offer courses arranged after the ninth time slot, except the following:
  1. The bachelor program of extension education
  2. The required courses of interdisciplinary programs
  3. General Education
  4. Technical and vocational programs
Article 7 After the time slots of courses are settled down, Academic Affairs will not accept to change the time slots of courses without proper reasons. To protect student's rights, the teaching unit needs to inform students the correct time slot if the time slot is changed with a proper reason.
Article 8 Departments are encouraged to arrange the courses counting three credits in separate time slots except the courses taught by part-time teachers.

Article 10 To protect student's rights, if any course needs to change the time slot for the whole semester, the teacher of the course has to go through following steps. First, the teacher needs an application with attended students' signatures. Second, the application also needs to be signed by Chair of the department, Director of the center, Dean of the college, Dean of Academic Affairs, Vice President and President. Third, the application needs to be sent to Academic Affairs before the result of preselect is announced.
Article 11 These articles are implemented after it is resolved in the Academic Affairs Meeting and announced by President, so is the amendment.
Article 12

The Chinese version of the document shall prevail in case of any discrepancy or inconsistency between Chinese version and its English translation.
