The Office of International Affairs

The Office of International Affairs was established in 2011 for promoting students’ and faculty’s global mobility, and providing a global vision to culture students’ professional career development, and to meet the future challengers. In order to execute our projected plan, we have increased our partner instructions from 29 (2011) to 107 (2021) in the last decade. Many activities including long- and short-term students’ exchanging programs were created through mutual agreements in collaboration with our partner universities. Every year, many students benefit from these international study plans to take summer internships, summer camp, students’ conferences, or semester-/year-long of studies abroad. Annually, approximately same numbers of students from different countries come to our campus or hospital for clinical training, studies or experiencing different cultures in Taiwan. These incoming and outgoing programs are very welcome to students, and we are planning to expand these students’ activities and expecting more institutions to join us in the future.

This office also serves as a consulting center for students’ pursuing their further degrees abroad. There are also some joint degree programs as well as double degree programs available for CSMU’s students in many different disciplines. In the future, we would like to establish more programs with our partner institutions for our students to meet their demands.

The Taiwan …

The island of Taiwan, also known as the “Formosa” described by early Portuguese sailors in mid-16 century or earlier, sits on the eastern edge of Asia continent with an area of 35,808 square kilometers, and with some more than two hundreds of mountains (> 3,000 m) dominating two thirds of the island. With its slightly higher than 23 million inhabitants, Taiwan is one of the most densely populated land in the world. Also, Taiwan is one of the largest economies powered by its IT industry, computer manufactory, and many others. Taiwan is also a democracy state for more than 30 years and it is the first legalized country for same-sex marriage in Asia.

The climates ranging from the subtropics to tropics with a yearly round pleasant temperatures. However, occasional typhoons in summer and earthquakes are major nature disasters in this island.Post-disaster recovery capabilities and studies have become a part of Taiwan’s arrogance in the world. People of Taiwan are friendly and warm, and foreigners are safe here. Traditional Chinese cultures are very well-preserved in this island. Taipei City is the largest and the capital of this island. With modernized mass transportation systems, Taipei is a very convenient place to travel. The High-Speed-Rail is operating on the western coast of the island, and it makes the island-travel becomes very easy and affordable.

The Taichung City …

Early immigrants from China and local aboriginal tribes established the settlement in early 17th century, and gradually became a populated area of central region of Formosa Island. Not until early 19th century, the name of “Taichung City” was granted during the Japanese ruling period, and expanded to be a modern city before and after WWII. Currently, this city is home for about 3 million people, and which is the second largest city (next to Taipei, the capital city of Taiwan) in this tropic/subtropic island. People in Taichung City enjoy the good weathers all year round with a temperature about 26oC on May (temps similar to FL and TX, USA). The city is also rich in its natural beauty with mountains and coastlines within a short-driving distance. The signature sightseeing attraction, the Sun Moon Lake, is about 70-min drive from the city, which will be included in our study trip. Food selections are extremely convenient around the city, and the most famous and the huge night market, Fengjia Night Market, is within the city, which attracts tourists and local young people. Moreover, Miyahara Eye Hospital, rainbow military housings, Calligraphy Greenway, Gaomei Wetlands and National Taichung Theater are all waiting for your exploration during your stays in Taichung. The most worthy to be mentioned is that “Pearl Milk Tea” was created in this city some 36 years ago.
